LibX places a cue into Amazon pages. When clicked on, this cue will leads to the library catalog based on the item’s ISBN. However, the cue will appear regardless of whether your library owns this item or not – for most editions, LibX is unable to check the catalog before displaying the item.
In Figure 1, the Link Amazon by ISBN LibApp searches for the item’s ISBN and appends a cue to the page by the The UX Book title that will link the user to a search for the book based on its ISBN.
For example, the Virginia Tech Edition’s primary catalog is Summon. The Virginia Tech badge next to the item availability links the user to the Summon page for that book, as shown in Figure 2.
Figure 1: this Amazon page shows a cue that will link the user to its search page on Summon
Figure 2: this page is opened after the badge is clicked and holds the search results for The UX Book
It should be noted that there are pages that the Show Item Availability feature is not currently working for. The feature is not working for the Kindle Edition pages because of their differing page layouts. The current Find Position of Title in Amazon module scrapes the page with a different page layout in mind which is why it does not work on pages such at the Kindle Edition pages. We are working on modifying the module so that there is a “fallback” option for when the page does not follow the expected layout.
This LibApp is believed to work on these pages when using the VT edition:
