Autolink ISBN LibApp

The LibX Core Autolinking Package comes with an Autolink ISBNs LibApp that finds the ISBNs on a page and prepares a catalog search for the IBSN and then creates a link on the ISBN to the search page.  The LibApp also displays a tip to the user that shows the search results for the item that the ISBN corresponds to.   If the user’s library does not have a copy of the item, the LibApp will offer the ILL service to the user to make a request for that item to be loaned to the library.

The image below shows the how the ISBN on this Amazon Books page  is now linked by the Autolink ISBN LibApp.  The screenshot was taken with the cursor hoovered over the link when the Summon widget service was turned on.  The tool tip displays results to a single publication of this item.

Technical Advice

It should also be noted that if the ISBN on the page is already written with a link, the LibApp will not override that link.

When the Summon API proxy is used, the tool tip shows very detailed information.  Do note that the use of the Summon API proxy does require an API key and that you run our proxy on your machine. Anyone, however, can use the Summon widget service immediate, provided they are a Summon customer.  When the Summon widget service is used, the tool tip displays less detailed information but does include the publication information.
This LibApp can search for both ISBN-10 and ISBN-13 IDs.  To search for the ISBN-10, the LibApp searches for a 10-digit integer and treats it as an ISBN-10.  For the ISBN-13 value, the LibApp first looks for the string “978-” and a 10-digit value behind.
