The LibX Core Autolinking Package comes with an Autolink ISSNs LibApp that will finds the ISSNs on a page and formulates a catalog search for the ISSN and then creates a link on the ISSN to the search page. The LibApp also displays a tool tip that shows the item that the ISSN corresponds to and its catalog’s search results. The tool tip also shows search results from JournalTOCs.
It should be noted that if the ISSN on the page is already written with a link, the LibApp will not override that link.
The image below shows the how the ISSN on this APA PsycNet page is now linked by the Autolink ISSN LibApp. The screenshot was taken with the cursor hoovered over the link when the Summon widget service was turned on. The tool tip displays results to three article and allows the user to view results from JournalTOCs.
When the Summon API proxy is used, the tool tip shows very detailed information. Do note that the use of the Summon API proxy does require an API key and that you run our proxy on your machine. Anyone, however, can use the Summon widget service immediate, provided they are a Summon customer. When the Summon widget service is used, the tool tip displays less detailed information but does include the publication information. When the Summon widget service is configured and turned on. the tool tip will show the results for the ISSN and eISSN. If the Summon widget service is not turned on, the tool tip will only show the results for the ISSN.
This LibApp searches for the ISSN by looking for two 4-digit strings, separated by a hyphen. The first seven digits should be of integers 0-9. The last digit of the second string can be an integer of 0-9 or X.
